On November 1, hundreds of women's organizations around the world will gather in front of German embassies and consulates to protest the entry into force of an extremely regressive law on parental rights.

On November 1, 2024 at 12:05 p.m., the Réseau Féministe Québécois is calling for a demonstration in front of the German Consulate in Montreal to protest against the entry into force of an unprecedented law on “gender self-identification”.

 Serious precedent

Passed on April 12, 2024, the “self-identification law” (Selbstbestimmungsgesetz) will come into force in Germany on November 1, 2024. This law makes it possible to legally replace sex with gender, in line with the wishes of the pro-trans lobby.

As soon as it comes into force, it will be possible for anyone to change their civil status to the opposite sex, as well as their first name, every year.

Anyone refusing to recognize the new “gender identity” of a trans man who has become a “woman” could be fined up to 10,000 euros.

As for parents, they will still be able to determine the sex of their newborn child, but from the age of five, their child's consent will be required. Teenagers over the age of 14 will even be able to take their case to the family court if their parents refuse to recognize their “transition”.

Legal setback

According to Quebec feminists such as Alexandra Houle, this law - which could serve as a model for other countries - runs counter to Germany's commitments in the international community, notably with its ratification of the United Nations Convention on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) and the Istanbul Convention on the Protection of Women against Gender-based Violence.

Article 34 of the German Constitution also guarantees the protection of women's rights on the basis of their sex, as do the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms and the Quebec Charter.

By legalizing self-identification, this new law erodes protections based on biological criteria, which are nevertheless verifiable and indisputable.

Women's safety compromised

The experience of countries that have adopted similar laws, including Canada, is causing deep concern in various quarters, as the safety of women and girls is being compromised by these new ideological fads.

In Germany, Canada and regions such as Scotland, men identifying themselves as women are being placed in women's prisons, including violent murderers, sex offenders and paedophiles.

For example, on October 2, La Presse revealed that a recidivist pedophile considered dangerous was serving his 32-month sentence in a women's prison. In Canada, at least twelve other biologically male inmates are currently in the same situation.

On April 4, 2023, the Quebec Liberal Party called for the deletion of the word “woman” from the family law reform bill, only to back down under pressure. The Réseau Féministe Québécois deplores the fact that no feminist organization was consulted, and that the Conseil du statut de la femme remained silent in the face of the repercussions of this process on women's rights in the country.
