Jocelyne Robert: guilty of failing to comply

News - Intro image

The Réseau féministe québécois denounces the ideological censorship that pushed Jocelyne Robert, a pioneer in sex education, to leave her professional order for daring to criticize the so-called 'transaffirmative' approach.

Jocelyne Robert is a renowned sexologist in Quebec. At the Reseau féministe québécois, many of us grew up with her sex education books.

Jocelyne Robert was a pioneer: the first sexologist to talk about consent, pleasure, and respect to the teenagers of Quebec. She is no longer a sexologist. She resigned from her professional order because, for her, scientific rigor is more important than anything.Ms. Robert is the adult in the room and has all our respect for this courageous act.

Waht happened?

Mrs. Robert disagrees with the guidelines set by the Order of Sexologists of Quebec regarding "trans-affirmative" care, and she has committed the infamous crime of calling for more caution when it comes to supporting gender transitions.

The OSQ claims allegiance to WPATH (World Professional Association for Transgender Health) and its standards of care to assert that only the affirmative approach is correct and that any criticism or alternative viewpoint is necessarily incorrect.

The case of Mrs. Robert adds to the sad list of professionals who are sacrificed in the name of ideology.

However, Ms. Robert's criticisms are supported by concerning reports and should at the very least prompt the OSQ to question its practices.

Doesn't the OSQ have a mission to protect the public? Don't we want the best care for our youth? Do we want to be monitored and treated by activists or by healthcare professionals?

In the United Kingdom, the report by pediatrician Hillary Cass demonstrated that the studies on which the largest 'transaffirmative' care clinic was based were of very low quality.

In several Nordic countries, there has been a setback on early affirmative care due to at least troubling questions about the side effects of puberty blockers on the health of young people.

An increasing number of studies are raising criticisms of these experimental treatments. But they are rarely disseminated, or they are quickly dismissed.

Why? But why silence these criticisms?

That is the question we ask ourselves every day. Why not take seriously the numerous criticisms associated with this "transaffirmative" medicine, which leans more towards ideology than care?

There is no question of tolerating dissent. If Ms. Robert raises criticisms, she must be silenced, re-educated by an activist organization.

The list of excomminicated is getting longer.

The case of Mrs. Robert adds to the sad list of professionals and experts who are being sacrificed in the name of ideology.

We remember Nurse Amy Hamm, who was fired and stripped of her professional license for stating on social media that there are only two sexes, and the doctor from Montreal who was suspended for three months in 2024 for 'misgendering' a transgender patient.

Not to mention all the anonymous testimonies from health professionals found in the report of the committee of wise individuals denouncing the climate of fear and censorship regarding gender identity ideology.

Jocelyne Robert is a responsible professional. She refuses to support an ideology. She refuses to play this game where young people could emerge mutilated, physically and/or mentally. She has stood her ground. She does not accept silence.

Jocelyne Robert is a remarkable woman. Hats off to you, Mrs. Robert!
