On Thursday, February 5, the members of the Senate Committee on Legal and Constitutional Affairs (CSAJC) met to review this bill, sponsored by Senator Julie Miville-Dechêne, article by article.
A meeting regarding the senators observations is expected to be held this week, during which parliamentary and legal staff will finalize the amended version. The SSAJC will then adopt the bill. After that, the bill will return to the Senate, and a date will be set for the third reading. The Senate’s final vote is expected to take place within the next two weeks. Finally, the bill will be submitted to the House of Commons, with the hope that it will be passed before the end of the parliamentary session in June.
